SUMMARY:Scottsdale AZ: Therapeutic arts for self-care: Exploring therapeutic arts practices
DESCRIPTION:Participants will explore the conceptual and practical distinction between therapeutic arts and art therapy\, two terms that are frequently conflated but differ significantly in scope\, training requirements and clinical application. This distinction is essential for psychological practice: clinicians must understand the boundaries of their own competence versus treatment offered by a credentialed art therapist. The workshop grounds this discussion in the current understanding of clinician burnout\, compassion\, fatigue\, and vicarious trauma\, situating therapeutic arts within the broader literature on mindfulness-based stress reduction and present-moment awareness through guided experience exercises. Participants will directly practice techniques they can integrate into their own self-care routines\, gaining firsthand insight into how the creative process can support nervous system regulation and sustained attention. From an educational standpoint\, this training addresses a recognized gap in clinical training programs: while clinicians are routinely taught to recommend self-care and mindfulness practices to clients\, they receive comparatively little structured instruction on maintaining their own psychological resilience. By positioning therapeutic arts as a professional development and self-care tool\, which is distinct from but an informed portion of the clinical discipline of our therapy\, this workshop equipped clinicians with practical strategies for personal sustainability while reinforcing sound ethical boundaries around scope of practice.

SUMMARY:Orlando FL: Reimagining Eating Disorder Care for Black Women
DESCRIPTION:Eating disorders in Black women are frequently underrecognized\, underdiagnosed\, and undertreated due to persistent stereotypes\, systemic inequities\, and culturally incongruent understandings of illness. Clinicians who rely solely on traditional presentations may inadvertently overlook symptoms\, delay intervention\, or contribute to disparities in care. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis presentation encourages participants to reimagine eating disorder care for Black women by integrating ethical practice\, cultural responsiveness\, and evidence-based approaches that center their lived experiences. Participants will explore how culture\, identity\, body image\, trauma\, emotional avoidance\, and systemic factors can influence the presentation and treatment of eating disorders in Black women. The workshop will also examine ethical considerations related to multicultural competence\, bias awareness\, and equitable care across professional disciplines. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThrough discussion and clinical examples\, attendees will gain practical strategies to enhance assessment\, strengthen therapeutic relationships\, and provide more culturally responsive\, affirming care for Black women experiencing eating disorders and co-occurring mental health concerns.

SUMMARY:iaedp Foundation Webinar: The Moving Target of What to Focus on When Your Patient’s Eating Disorder Is One of Several Problems
DESCRIPTION:The work of professionals who treat clients diagnosed with an eating disorder (ED) and significant other comorbidities such as depression\, anxiety\, suicidality\, or BPD can be complicated. First and foremost\, multi-diagnostic ED clients can be ambivalent about treatment and recovery. Professionals are often in the position of having to “sell” the treatment we believe is needed to individuals who often have not been helped by multiple previous interventions. Furthermore\, EDs can be life-threatening illnesses\, and professionals may become unclear about priorities when attempting to help a client with…Read more

SUMMARY:Tucson AZ: Living in the Body\, Not Just Treating It: A Whole Person Approach
DESCRIPTION:Through eating disorder recovery\, patients learn how to nourish their bodies\, appreciate their bodies\, and maybe even love their bodies\, but many never learn how to live in their bodies. When trauma and eating disorders collide\, a whole-person approach is essential to help patients reconnect with self-love\, self-care\, self-assessment\, and the ability to live safely in their bodies. Blending both clinical expertise and lived experience\, this presentation addresses the importance of expanding eating disorder treatment to include the simultaneous treatment of trauma and core issues. Tiffany Ingersoll\, MA\, LPC-S\, LPCC-S (seasoned clinician\, national speaker\, and Clinical Director)\, provides a clinical perspective on why integrating trauma treatment is necessary for full healing.

SUMMARY:Providence RI: Restricted Eating in Patients with Disorders of Gut-Brain Interac
DESCRIPTION:This talk will address the clinical overlap between eating disorders\, restricted eating\, and disorders of gut–brain interaction (DGBIs)\, with a focus on patients presenting with IBS-C\, functional dyspepsia\, bloating\, constipation\, and food-related symptom anxiety. Using case-based discussion\, the session will highlight how eating disorder history or active restrictive eating can complicate GI diagnosis and treatment\, how GI-directed dietary advice may unintentionally reinforce restriction\, and how clinicians can distinguish reasonable symptom-driven food avoidance from clinically significant disordered eating or ARFID. The talk will emphasize practical screening strategies\, medical risk assessment\, appropriate GI evaluation\, and collaborative care among gastroenterologists\, dietitians\, psychologists\, and internists.
