SUMMARY:Tampa Winter Recovery Gala
DESCRIPTION:123 South West Shore Boulevard \n\n\n\nDec 7 from 11am to 2pm EST \n\n\n\nWe are bringing back speakers to our annual gala! \n\n\n\nThis year we are excited to announce our speaker Mallary Tenore Tarpley\, author of SLIP! \n\n\n\niaedp Tampa: Recovery Gala Featuring Author: Mallary Tenore Tarpley \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nJoin the local chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp) for our Annual Recovery Gala\, a special evening dedicated to fostering hope and celebrating the journey of recovery. This year’s gala serves as a vital fundraiser to support our co-sponsor – The Alliance for Eating Disorders. Proceeds will go to directly support Tampa Bay’s two FREE clinician-led eating disorder support groups. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nEvent Details: \n\n\n\n\nDate: Sunday\, December 7th\n\n\n\nTime: 11am-2pm (Lunch provided)\n\n\n\nLocation: The Centre Club – 123 S West Shore Blvd 8th Floor\, Tampa\, FL 33609\n\n\n\nWho: This event is open to the public\, those clinicians\, individuals\, families and friends affected by eating disorders are encouraged to attend.\n\n\n\n\nOur Guest Speaker: Mallary Tenore Tarpley\n\n\n\nWe are honored to welcome journalist\, professor\, and author Mallary Tenore Tarpley as our distinguished guest speaker. Mallary is a leading voice in a new conversation about eating disorder recovery. She brings a powerful blend of personal experience and professional reporting to her work\, offering a raw and honest look at the path to healing. \n\n\n\nFeatured Book: Slip: Life in the Middle of Eating Disorder Recovery\n\n\n\nMallary’s groundbreaking debut book\, Slip\, challenges the conventional “before and after” narrative of eating disorder recovery. Through a combination of memoir\, extensive interviews\, and cutting-edge research\, she introduces the concept of “the middle place”—the liminal space between sickness and full recovery where slips are expected and progress is always possible. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSlip is a restorative narrative that illuminates the messiness of recovery without sugarcoating difficult truths. It provides a compassionate and realistic framework for those with lived experience\, their loved ones\, and the professionals who support them. Mallary’s talk will delve into the themes of vulnerability\, authenticity\, and the importance of finding hope in the ongoing process of recovery. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nYour presence and support at this year’s gala will help our chapter continue to provide essential education\, training\, and resources\, fostering a community that understands and supports the complexities of eating disorder recovery. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTickets: \n\n\n\nEarly Bird Pricing: $55 per person (Lunch provided) \n\n\n\nLate Bird Pricing: $65 per person (Lunch provided) \n\n\n\n5 Tickets: $250 ($25 discount) \n\n\n\n10 Tickets: $500 ($50 discount)

SUMMARY:From Distraction to Disorder: The ADHD-Eating Disorder Connection
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Prof Heba Essawy M.D. Psychiatry\, CEDS\, Prof of Psychiatry\, Medical School Ain Shams University Cairo-Egypt\n\n\n\n\n\nMeeting Details:\n\n\n\nWhen: Friday\, October 31\, 2025 | 12:00 – 1:00 PM ETWhere: Zoom Link provided after registration \n\n\n\nCourse will be held live and in English \n\n\n\nFor technical assistance\, please email: maricarmen@iaedpfoundation.com For registration assistance\, please email: information@iaedpfounation.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbstract\n\n\n\nAttention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder diagnosed according to DSM-5 as persistent patterns of inattention\, hyperactivity\, and impulsivity that interfere with daily functioning and development. Eating Disorders (EDs) are one of the serious mental health conditions characterised by diviant eating behaviors\, distorted body image\, and significant medical and neuropsychological consequences. New research highlights an intersection between ADHD and eating disorders\, suggesting shared neurobiological and psychological mechanisms. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStatistically\, recent studies indicate that clients with ADHD have a three- to five-fold higher risk of developing an eating disorder or disordered eating compared to the general population. Approximately 31% of individuals with ADHD screen as being at risk for an eating disorder specialy binge eating disorder and bulimia nervosa—compared to about 12% of those without ADHD. On the other hand\, among patients with eating disorders\, 25–37% exhibit clinically significant ADHD symptoms\, with the highest rates observed in bulimia nervosa and the binge/purge subtype of anorexia nervosa. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSex differences play an important role in this association: females with ADHD are nearly twice as likely to develop an eating disorder compared to females without ADHD\, while this association appears nonsignificant in males. The explanation for this sex difference relies on hormonal differences\, level of impulsivity and social pressures in females on body image. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAetiologically\, the intersection of ADHD and eating disorders arises from shared neurobiological\, emotional\, and cognitive dysfunctions — particularly dopamine pathway alterations\, impulsivity\, and emotional dysregulation — leading to parallel patterns of reward-seeking and loss of control behaviors. Understanding this comorbidity is essential for improving diagnostic accuracy\, early detection\, and ameliorating treatment outcomes. Traditional eating disorder interventions may be less effective when ADHD symptoms remain untreated. Therefore\, integrated\, multimodal treatment approaches—combining behavioral\, nutritional\, and pharmacological strategies—are recommended to target both attentional and emotional regulation challenges. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nConclusion: Recognizing\, diagnosing and assessing the ADHD–Eating Disorder overlap is crucial for clinicians\, as it enhances individualized care\, reduces relapse risk\, and improves long-term prognosis \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresentation Objectives\n\n\n\n\nDescribe the diagnostic criteria according to DSM-5 of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Eating Disorders (Eds).\n\n\n\nHighlighting the epidemiological data and prevalence of ADHD and eating disorders.\n\n\n\nExplore the shared psychological and neurobiological aetiology that underlie their intersection.\n\n\n\nShed light on behavioral and the pharmacological lines of therapy for this comorbidity to improve patient outcomes and to decrease relapse rates.\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPricing: \n\n\n\nMember/ International Member – Zone 1 $50 USD \n\n\n\nMember – Zone 2 $20 USD \n\n\n\nMember – Zone 3 $5 USD \n\n\n\nNon-Member/ International Non-Member – Zone 1 $75 USD \n\n\n\nInternational Non-Member – Zone 2  $30 USD (requires a generated invoice\, please reach out to information@iaedpfoundation.com) \n\n\n\nInternational Non-Member – Zone 3  $7 USD (requires a generated invoice\, please reach out to information@iaedpfoundation.com) \n\n\n\nUse this link to determine your home Country Zone: iaedp™ International Chapter Membership Zones.

Unlike other eating disorders\, ARFID is not driven by body image concerns or a desire to lose weight. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nFor many neurodiverse individuals—such as those with autism\, ADHD\, or sensory processing differences—ARFID is closely tied to sensory sensitivities\, executive functioning challenges\, and heightened anxiety. Providing effective support requires a neurodiverse-affirming approach that acknowledges these complexities and tailors interventions accordingly. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n€10 until July 31 / €20 after July 31 – People in recovery from an ED and family members €69 until July 31 / €79 after July 31 – Professionals/iaedp members€1499 until July 31 – Professionals/non-iaedp members
