SUMMARY:Richmond Chapter: Integrating Yoga into the Treatment of Eating Disorders
DESCRIPTION:This workshop explores the integration of trauma-informed yoga practices into eating disorder prevention and treatment through the lens of embodiment\, self-regulation\, and nervous system awareness. Participants will examine the physiological and psychological mechanisms through which breath regulation\, mindful movement\, interoceptive awareness\, and grounding practices may support recovery and enhance therapeutic outcomes. The session will introduce a state-awareness framework to help clinicians and helping professionals identify patterns of hypoarousal\, hyperarousal\, and regulation and match yoga-based interventions accordingly. Emphasis will be placed on trauma-informed implementation\, including safety\, choice\, non-objectifying language\, cultural humility\, and interdisciplinary collaboration within medical\, psychological\, nutritional\, and educational settings. Participants will engage in experiential practices\, case-based application\, and discussion of emerging empirical support for yoga as an adjunctive intervention in eating disorder care.

SUMMARY:iaedp Foundation Webinar: The Moving Target of What to Focus on When Your Patient’s Eating Disorder Is One of Several Problems
DESCRIPTION:The work of professionals who treat clients diagnosed with an eating disorder (ED) and significant other comorbidities such as depression\, anxiety\, suicidality\, or BPD can be complicated. First and foremost\, multi-diagnostic ED clients can be ambivalent about treatment and recovery. Professionals are often in the position of having to “sell” the treatment we believe is needed to individuals who often have not been helped by multiple previous interventions. Furthermore\, EDs can be life-threatening illnesses\, and professionals may become unclear about priorities when attempting to help a client with…Read more

SUMMARY:iaedp Foundation Webinar: Navigating Common Electrolyte Abnormalities in Patients with Eating Disorders
DESCRIPTION:In contrast to most other mental illnesses\, electrolyte abnormalities are very commonly found in patients with eating disorders. Many of them\, if untreated\, are particularly dangerous for these patients. Abnormalities of sodium\, potassium\, bicarbonate and phosphorous are the most commonly found. In fact\, the presence of these abnormalities are pathognomonic of particular eating disorder diagnoses and can help elucidate the presence of a covert eating disorder. Given the inherent and dangerous features of eating disorders\, these electrolyte abnormalities have unique treatment approaches whi…Read more

SUMMARY:Tampa Chapter: Eating Disorders and Midlife
DESCRIPTION:While society’s obsession with maintaining youth masks the reality of midlife eating disorders\, mature adults navigate a silent crisis created by the intersection of aging\, diet culture\, and hormonal transitions related to menopause. These midlife transitions further complicate an environment where relevance and social status remain deeply tied to appearance\, signaling a cultural shift that increasingly prioritizes appearance over underlying character. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nJoin Dr. Wendy Oliver-Pyatt as she explores how society’s shifting expectations of women as they age\, coupled with its psycho-social pressure to stay “relevant” in all aspects of their lives\, can cause women to turn to a variety of anti-aging interventions\, including a strict adherence to a relentless diet culture. During this presentation\, we will explore the bio-psycho-social manifestations of aging\, and examine the cultural context of aging women in U.S. society versus other cultures historically over time. Ultimately\, we will learn about the unique steps that mature women can take to heal while navigating midlife and eating disorder recovery.
