15 Jul Changes to Certification Requirements for Eating Disorder Professionals
The International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp™) is happy to announce important updates to its certification process for professionals treating eating disorders. Reflecting feedback from the community and a commitment to making certification more accessible, equitable, and affordable, iaedp has removed the following requirements: paid membership; symposium attendance; case study submission; statement of intent and treatment approach. In addition, any certified consultant (CEDS-C) can provide consultation to any applicant working toward CEDS.
In an effort to streamline the certification process and broaden accessibility of professional credentialing in eating disorder treatment, these changes are effective immediately for all individuals seeking initial certification or renewing their certification. Note: If you opened or began an application before July 8, 2024, your application will still include membership and symposium attendance requirements. However, the iaedp staff will adjust those requirements internally on your completed application to fit the new certification standards.
“We have listened carefully to the feedback from our community, and we understand the need for less restrictive pathways to certification,” said Sara Cantu, Director of Certification at iaedp Foundation. “By removing these requirements, we are opening up our certification to a wider group of professionals worldwide, who can now bring iaedp-certified expertise to their work without these previous barriers.”
Starting January 2025, professionals seeking certification and renewal will be expected to earn eating disorder-specific continuing education hours per each 2-year renewal cycle as identified by an eating disorder-specific course title. Graduate-level courses may be applied at a rate of 1 credit hour = 6.6 continuing education hours. Please be aware that publications do not satisfy this requirement. Proof of hours, including CE certificates, MUST have your name, name of training, number of hours obtained, and date of completion.
Professionals seeking to obtain or renew their certification can now do so with fewer prerequisites, allowing them to focus on the essential education and practical experience needed to provide quality service to persons with eating disorders.
