In 2026, we’re taking this conversation to the historic and vibrant city of Baltimore, Maryland, for an event designed to both challenge and inspire.

Unlocking the Promise of Evidence-based Practice for Eating Disorders: Activating the Power of Exposure Therapy Using a Case Formulation Approach

Eating disorders (EDs) are challenging to treat and are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Research indicates that therapists underutilize evidence-based interventions for EDs and comorbid conditions and that exposure therapy is particularly underutilized. One reason for this underutilization involves negative attitudes and beliefs about such interventions and their associated manuals. The aim of this presentation is to challenge some of these beliefs by reducing common confusion about the difference between evidence-based interventions and evidence-based practice. In addition, this presentation will show how Person’s case formulation approach can be used to embrace evidence-based practice for EDs with an emphasis on the use of exposure therapy.

Why Attend?

This year’s theme—Evidence, Empathy, and Evolution—calls us to examine how our work is evolving to meet the complexities of eating disorder care today. Through keynote sessions, multidisciplinary panels, hands-on workshops, and networking opportunities, attendees will explore:

  • The latest research and clinical advances
  • Innovative strategies for patient-centered care
  • Cross-disciplinary approaches to treatment and recovery
  • Cultural humility and inclusive practices in clinical settings

Whether you specialize in psychotherapy, medical monitoring, nutrition, body movement, or research, this symposium will equip you with practical knowledge, peer support, and a broader view of what the future of our field demands.
