Dear iaedp community, 

This month, I would like to share with you two important updates that reflect both the heart and the evolution of our mission. One update focuses on advancing scientific knowledge, while the other aims to strengthen the global infrastructure that supports our work. 

Uniting for Research: Join the Eating Disorders Genetics Initiative 2 (EDGI2) 

We are proud to announce that iaedp will be supporting recruitment efforts for the Eating Disorders Genetics Initiative 2 (EDGI2) through our newsletter and website. 

EDGI2 is the largest global research study ever conducted to better understand genetic, medical, and behavioral factors associated with eating disorders. Led by Dr. Cynthia Bulik, the goal of EDGI2 is to unlock critical insights that may lead to the development of better treatments and help prevent the onset of these disorders. 

But science can’t do it alone; it needs us. It needs clinicians, families, and people with lived experience to step forward and participate. When you join or share this study, you are not only contributing to important research, you are joining an effort that may make a genuine contribution to improving the diagnosis, management, and treatment of eating disorders.

Supporting Our Global Team: Changes and Transitions 

We also want to share some important updates regarding the iaedp Foundation Support Team. To better support our growing international chapters and communities, Maricarmen Díaz Juárez has been promoted to Director of International Affairs. Many of you already know Maricarmen for her tireless commitment to ensuring high-quality translation and multilingual access to our resources. In her new role, she will continue leading this important work and expanding our global impact. We are thrilled to see her step into this well-deserved leadership position. 

We also wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to Sara Cantú, Allie Moody, Rachael Martin and Pat Gabbard, who have concluded their service in the Certification, Education, and Membership departments, respectively. Each of them made meaningful contributions to our mission, and we thank them sincerely for their dedication. 

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we’ve also engaged a certification specialist who will review and assess our Certification and Continuing Education Program during the month of July. This process is part of our long-term goal to seek formal accreditation, ensuring we continue to deliver the highest professional standards. 

During this transition, Executive Director Dawn Gannon will oversee the Certification and Continuing Education Department, supported by Brooke Weldon and Cristal Carr, and Casey Keach will work with Director of Membership & Operations Melody Jordan-Carr to support our US chapters and member support. In this season of transformation—whether through research, leadership shifts, or program development—our direction remains steady. Together, we are building a more connected, more credible, and more compassionate global network of professionals committed to healing those affected by eating disorders.

Una actualización se centra en un avance del conocimiento científico, mientras que la otra tiene como objetivo fortalecer la infraestructura global que respalda nuestro trabajo. 

Unidos por la investigación: únete a la Eating Disorders Genetics Initiative 2 (EDGI2) 

Nos enorgullece anunciar que iaedp apoyará los esfuerzos de reclutamiento de la Eating Disorders Genetics Initiative 2 (EDGI2, por sus siglas en inglés) a través de nuestro boletín informativo y sitio web. 

EDGI2 es el mayor estudio de investigación global jamás realizado para comprender de mejor manera los factores genéticos, médicos y conductuales asociados con los trastornos de la conducta alimentaria. Dirigido por la Dra. Cynthia Bulik, el objetivo del EDGI2 es revelar conocimiento fundamental que pueda conducir al desarrollo de mejores tratamientos, así como ayudar a prevenir la aparición de estos trastornos. 

La ciencia no puede hacerlo sola; nos necesita. Requiere que los clínicos, las familias y las personas que hayan pasado por una experiencia vivida den un paso adelante y participen. Al participar o compartir este estudio, no solo estás contribuyendo a una investigación importante, sino que te sumas a un esfuerzo que puede contribuir de manera significativa a mejorar el diagnóstico, el manejo y el tratamiento de los trastornos de la conducta alimentaria.

También queremos compartir algunas actualizaciones importantes sobre el equipo de apoyo de la iaedp Foundation. 

Para brindar un mejor apoyo a nuestros crecientes capítulos y comunidades internacionales, Maricarmen Díaz Juárez ha sido ascendida a Director of International Affairs. Muchos/as de ustedes ya conocen a Maricarmen por su incansable compromiso con la garantía de una traducción de alta calidad y el acceso multilingüe a nuestros recursos. En su nueva posición, seguirá liderando esta importante labor y ampliando nuestro impacto global. Estamos encantados de verla asumir esta merecida posición de liderazgo.

Este proceso forma parte de nuestro objetivo a largo plazo de obtener una acreditación oficial, lo que garantiza que seguiremos ofreciendo los más altos estándares profesionales.
